A Rousing Laughter

 By Deline Tan

Laughter…the medicine for the cure of depression and stress is one of the activities that will cause one to laugh away the sadness of life. Laughter brings joy and smoothes away frustrations and irritability. When you laugh, it prompts the release of pain reducing chemicals and causes you to laugh your pains away. When you are sad or angry, it causes pain. If you know how to laugh if off, it will help you decrease the toxin in your body. The toxic waste can be flashed off almost immediately if you laugh, as it restores your mood and helps you faced up with your circumstances better.

Laugh your heart out when situations turn against you. All of us face trials and difficulties in our lives. If you learn to laugh more and laugh at yourself, you’ll find that you’ll be able to handle your problems better. Laughter is like medicine. If you laugh regularly, it will cure your heartaches and pains. After all, a cheerful countenance beats a bad mood and with laughter, it cheers your heart.

Let’s take a scenario between two sisters who quarrel. One is always moody and irritable, and the other is always cheerful and does not take things at heart. When they quarrel, who do you think will come out the better? Whether who should use the computer first, or who is going to wash the dishes, or to fight over a favourite TV program, whatever the situations are, who would seemingly be the victor? The one who is always moody and unhappy will sulk the whole day when they fought, whereas the other who has a cheerful countenance will get over the situation in a matter of minutes.

That is the power of laughter. It can cause you to laugh off the pain in your body and turn your moods and circumstances around, without you feeling bad or in pain. The next time you are angry or fought with someone, turn that situation around by laughing it off. You’ll be surprised that your mood will change almost immediately, from anger to delight.

As you laugh, you are allowing your soul to experience the thrill of enlightenment, as the producing chemicals in your body will alter the sadness and turn your spirit into joy and happiness. Laughter also stimulates digestion. It helps stimulate your digestive juice to effectively digest the food and gives a smooth and easy bowel movement. It also lowers blood pressure.

Laughter can cause stresses and flights to turn it into joy and peace, thus causing the blood pressure in your body to align with your outer environment. The next time when you are about to shout or yell, quickly turn that into a roaring laughter, and soon you will take charge of your body like a quick medicine.

Try it and you’ll be surprised. Give yourself a rousing laughter now if your office papers are piled up at your desk and the stresses with your colleagues are running you mad. Remember, laugh it off and soon you’ll experience the thrill of life.

Sleep – The Needed Antidote for Health

By Deline Tan

Sleep – a state of rest and recovery in the night sleep is so important. Do not be deceived to think that you don’t need to sleep or need very little sleep. Sleep deprivation is the cause of many sicknesses, like aching muscles, confusion, memory lapse, depression, hallucination, headache, malaise, increased blood pressure, increased stress hormone level, increased risk of diabetes, irritability, obesity and psychosis.

In our daily activities, we’re stressed out through the various activities that we’re engaged in, and the body needs the needed rest and repair after a day’s work. If we constantly work through the night hours and deprive ourselves from sleep, know that it will develop into a chronic state of insomnia that will cause a person to sleep very little and eventually affect the organs in the body. The body and organs need repair during the night hours and if the body is deprived of sleep, it will affect the functions of the body.

When we sleep, our organs are repairing themselves and there is a cycle of the time clock that the body is subjected to for the organs to repair. From 11pm to 1am, the gallbladder is repairing itself during these hours, and this is the time that we should sleep for the night. The best sleep period is between 11pm to 6am, where the brain is completely at rest, and the body is refreshed the next morning to face the day activities.

From 1am to 3am, this is the time the liver is repairing itself, and usually people who suffer from liver problem are due to late night sleep. It is during this period that the enzymes that the liver produces during the day come to a halt and the bile juice that aids the digestion of the food rested. It is important to note that we should not eat anything after 11pm as the digestive tract needs rest, and if one is subjected to late night super regularly, know that one can suffer from heart attack.

Between 3am to 5am, this is the time the lung is repairing itself and that is the reason why a person who suffers from cough gets the worst cough during these hours because the lung is trying to rectify itself. From 5am to 7am, this is where the large intestine releases the waste, and that’s why it’s important that we empty our bowels in the morning. The best time to take breakfast is 7am, as between this time to 9am, the stomach is rejuvenating itself with the needed care for the digested food.

While you sleep, your body is repairing itself. If you deprive yourself of the needed sleep, you’re interrupting the body functions and repairs and that’s where people fall into all kinds of sicknesses. The night hours is meant for sleep, just as the day is meant for work and play. We must not be deceived to think that we don’t need sleep, as sleep is one of the vital means that we get our mind and body rested.

Our sleep runs in a cycle between every hour. The Rapid Eye Movement (REM) increases its level of sleep pattern in between our dreams and it increases and decreases its level of optimum sleep during each hour. This is why it’s important not to have interrupted sleep in between the nights, as the REM will function its best without any interruption if we rest throughout the night.

With a good night’s rest, the body and organs are well repaired and ready to tackle the day with new bright freshness if you have regular sleep between six to eight hours daily. Many people fell into the category that they work late and sleep late, only to get up with about four hours of sleep daily, which is detrimental to the health. If you do this regularly, soon you’ll fall into the syndrome of sleep deprivation and insomnia. When this happen, the body finds it difficult to adjust to the regular night hours of sleep and will affect your sleep pattern in the long run. Never fall into the trap in sleeping late and waking up early as the body is not designed to take the brute of such a pattern.

Never deprive yourself of sleep and remember to sleep at the latest by 11pm, and you’ll have the needed rest that you need for the night, and the best is to wake up at 6am, fresh and invigorates with life and energy for the day. Always sleep enough and rest early as this is the way to sleep healthy and never to fall ill.

Creatures of the House

By Deline Tan

I don’t know about you, but I hate lizard. It seems that the households are affected by either rats, cockroaches, lizards, houseflies, ants, etc. Worse still, stray cats would visit your home often and create havoc in your kitchen. Why did I mention that I hate lizard? Simply because I can see them all over my house, licking the cups, pans and bowls, much to my utter disgust.

What will you do in this instance? Do you kill them, vow that you’ll never see them again, or would you cringe in fear? Seeing a dead lizard in my house scares me.  I wonder where all these creatures come from. Perhaps its God’s creation and they just exist.

I don’t understand why ladies are afraid of these pests. My cousin and sister-in-law are scared stiff when they spot a cockroach. They would yell at the top of their voices or jump around. I don’t understand why women have such  fears for these creatures. They are harmless, yet I must admit that we ladies are just afraid. Why is this so? What about the men, are they afraid too? Perhaps they have no fear of such creatures, where I suppose God created them to protect the women.

I know of a friend who was dead-scared when a rat invaded her kitchen. She would spend days not cooking. Finally her husband had to re-renovate the kitchen and get rid of the  hidden dead rat. Can you see the fear of such unwanted creatures that would ruin and spoilt her days.

What is the role of man when he sees his wife or girlfriend frantic about the cockroach or lizard crawling in the house? How would he tell her that it’s okay, and help her not to be afraid? Have you men ever really wonder why the ladies should be so afraid?

Once a bird flew into a room in my house and was stuck in there because it couldn’t find the way out. Even though it was only a bird but I was scared stiff. I wouldn’t dare look at the bird even though it was harmless. Ask any lady and she will tell you that she is afraid of something in her life. Strange but true.

How then can we get rid of these creatures? How? I wonder. These creatures are crawling everywhere and we can’t help but to acknowledge that they exist. How about the housefly or mosquito?  Aren’t they a nuisance too? Yet, as mankind evolves through the ages, men have to accept God’s creation. Are you disgusted with the mosquito because it buzzes your ears while you try to sleep? How about the flies? Can you still eat the food that the flies had settled on? There is really no solution to it except that we have to accept that they exist, and we ladies just have to find a way to get use to it and learn not to be afraid of them.

Whatever it is, know that if you desire to rid of your fears, you can. It’s a matter of psychology. Speak to yourself that you’re not afraid and ask God to remove the fear from you. With dependency on the Mighty God and praying persistently, know that you can break the fear and be set free. The key is, trust God and entrust your problem to Him and He will take care of you.

Still have fear for the creatures of the night? Do yourself a favour – speak to your situation and it’ll all be over.
